About SpaceBack
SpaceBack is a browser-based tool for creating smaller video and photo copies. It is built for people who want to send or store a smaller file and compare the result before keeping it. It does not scan a photo library, remove duplicates or automatically delete files.
What happens to your media
You choose the source, pick a preset, process it on your device and save the result. The video engine uses browser media capabilities and the open-source Mediabunny library; photo processing uses the browser’s canvas encoder. Media is not uploaded to SpaceBack’s servers for compression. Sign-in, subscription management and support do use online services, as described in our privacy policy.
Two free successful exports are shared across videos and photos. Available paid plans and renewal prices are shown on the account page. Our size planner and guides are available without an account.
What we promise—and what we cannot
We provide comparison previews and explain supported formats before export. We do not promise lossless conversion, a fixed percentage reduction, or that every 1 GB file will work on every phone. Device memory, browser codecs and available storage matter. HDR video is currently unsupported. Keep the original when color, metadata, subtitles or extra audio tracks are important.
Maintaining the service
On October 6, 2026 we added a public size planner and a photo format and saving guide, and made learning resources easier to find. Our guidance describes the current product behavior and is updated when that behavior changes. If a result differs from the description, send us the steps, device and browser so we can investigate.
