SMALLER FILES, ON YOUR DEVICE
How to make a video smaller.
SpaceBack creates a compressed copy of a video or photo you choose. It does not scan your photo library for duplicates or delete originals. Media processing happens in your browser; your media files are not uploaded to our servers.
Start with one short video.
- Open the video compressor in your main browser and sign in. Two free successful exports are shared across videos and photos.
- Select a short, non-HDR video first. Choose the output resolution and quality.
- Keep the page open while compression runs. On iPhone, keep the screen awake and the tab visible.
- Compare the original and compressed previews. Check faces, movement, small text, and sound.
- Download the smaller copy. On iPhone, use Files or the Save or share option when available. Open the saved file to check playback before removing any original.
Downloading creates another file; it does not automatically free storage. Keep a backup of irreplaceable originals.
Which quality should I choose?
720p: a useful starting point for everyday sharing when file size matters. Available with Base at US$9.99/month.
1080p: retains more resolution for larger screens and detailed scenes. Available with Premium at US$14.99/month introductory pricing.
Up to 4K: available with Premium on compatible devices and source videos. Higher resolution needs more processing time and storage. SpaceBack does not upscale a lower-resolution original.
Compression is lossy. Higher quality can produce a larger file, and a file that is already efficiently compressed may not become smaller. Compare results rather than assuming every video will shrink by the same percentage. Both subscriptions renew monthly; cancel through your account.
Why might a large video fail?
The input limit is 1 GB per video, up to 20 videos per batch. Those limits are not a guarantee that every phone can process every file. Your device needs compatible codecs, working browser storage, and enough free space for temporary output. Without disk-backed browser storage, a 100 MB output safety limit applies.
If a batch struggles, try one file, close other heavy tabs, or use a desktop computer. In-app browsers inside social apps can lack required features; open the link in Safari, Chrome, Edge or Opera. Browser and device capabilities vary. HDR videos are currently unsupported.
What about photos?
The photo compressor accepts JPEG, PNG and WebP, up to 50 MB and 40 megapixels. Base mode limits the longest side to 2560 pixels; Premium detail mode keeps original dimensions. HEIC, RAW and animated images are not supported. Color and metadata can change, so keep the original if those matter.
Privacy and saving your results
Your selected media stays on your device. Sign-in, billing and support still use online services; see our privacy policy. Download results before leaving the page. Clear completed batches when you no longer need temporary copies.
